Author Guidelines
1. Types of Accepted Manuscripts
The International Journal of Open Science accepts original contributions that align with its thematic focus and promote open science within the context of higher education. Accepted manuscript types include:
- Original research articles: Empirical or theoretical studies with significant contributions.
- Academic essays: Well-grounded critical reflections on relevant topics.
- Literature reviews: Comprehensive analyses of previous research on a specific topic.
- Case studies: Institutional experiences or projects that exemplify open science practices.
- Technical notes or commentaries: Brief contributions on methodological, technological, or conceptual aspects.
2. Thematic Relevance
Priority will be given to submissions addressing topics such as:
- Open access and responsible research evaluation.
- Research data management and openness.
- Emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in scholarly communication.
- Public policies, collaborative models, and knowledge networks.
- Digital transformations in higher education.
3. Formatting Requirements
- Language: Spanish or English.
- Length: Between 5,000 and 8,000 words (excluding references).
- Format: .docx or .odt file.
- Citation style: APA 7th edition.
4. Manuscript Structure
- Title (in the original language and translated).
- Abstract (150 to 250 words) and 5 keywords.
- Main text structured (introduction, body, conclusions).
- Acknowledgements (if applicable).
- Full reference list.
5. Review and Editorial Criteria
Manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review. Evaluation criteria include:
- Relevance and thematic alignment.
- Originality and contribution to knowledge.
- Methodological rigor and theoretical grounding.
- Clarity and coherence of argumentation.
- Compliance with the journal’s ethical and editorial standards.
6. Originality, Ethics, and Transparency
- The work must be unpublished and not under review by another journal.
- Any conflict of interest must be declared.
- Authors are encouraged to include information on data availability, preprints, and software used.
7. Manuscript Submission
Submissions are accepted exclusively through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Authors must register and log in to the system to initiate the submission process. It is recommended to follow the platform's step-by-step instructions.
8. Open Data and Dataset Citation
Authors are encouraged to include a "Data Availability" section and to cite the datasets used in the manuscript, preferably with a DOI or other persistent identifier. See the section on Open Data Management.
9. Licensing
All accepted manuscripts will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), allowing reuse, distribution, and adaptation with proper attribution.
