Sensitive indicators for care management: an important challenge for chilean nursing

Abstract
The continuous improvement of the quality of nursing care plays a transcendental role in the health policies of the world. Knowing the sensitive nursing indicators constitutes an efficient strategy to achieve universal health coverage, encompassing an evaluation of the structure, process, result and impact of nursing care. In this sense, evaluating the sensitive indicators of care management allows moving towards the achievement of strategic objectives and public policies, as well as strengthening the quality and safety of the patient. This reflection is the result of a literature review with the aim of exploring the international and national experiences of indicators sensitive to nursing care management with the purpose of contributing with an update of the available scientific evidence. At the international level, there are initial experiences of the creation of packages of sensitive nursing indicators, which continue to be heterogeneous. These have been developed mainly in specific areas of care such as nephrology, pediatric oncology, home hospitalization, neonatology, intensive care and operating rooms. In Chile, there is still no consensus regarding sensitive nursing indicators, which becomes a great challenge for Chilean nursing, which must start from the national nursing directorate under the Ministry of Health, becoming a universal standard for closed care care management.
