HEALTH NEEDS OF THE IMMIGRANT POPULATION IN CHILE: SCOPING REVIEW NECESIDADES EN SALUD DE LA POBLACIÓN INMIGRANTE EN CHILE, SEGÚN EL MODELO DEL SOL NACIENTE: SCOPING REVIEW

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Analyze the health needs of the migrant population, according to the rising sun model during 2013 to 2023 in Chile. METHODOLOGY: Literature review (scoping review). Articles published in the databases PUBMED, Scielo, Scopus, Benessere Nursing Journal, Chilean Nursing Journal, Chilean Public Health Journal, and Horizonte de Nursing were analyzed. With articles that address migration to Chile as a destination. The search strategy was carried out using descriptors in health sciences (DeCS) and Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) with the Boolean operator AND. The flow chart (PRISMA) was used. The evaluation of
methodological quality was carried out using the critical reading sheet “Practical guide to critical reading of original articles in Health Sciences”, adapted and validated by Coss et al.
RESULTS: The immigration process has negative effects on the mental health of the migrant community; additionally, they prioritize work and economic needs over mental health problems. Psychological coping strategies to adapt to the environment are scarce. The main barriers to congruent care were: the limited presence of intercultural facilitators, little training of health personnel, exposure to discrimination and racism.
CONCLUSION: The mental health needs of the migrant community must be a priority in health services. Incorporating transcultural care can help improve the well-being of these groups that are in vulnerable conditions.
