«No somos ratones»: renegociando la convivencia escolar en el movimiento estudiantil chileno / «We are not mice»: renegotiating the school coexistence in the Chilean students movement

Resumen

En Santiago de Chile, un liceo conocido por su carácter combativo en el movimiento estudiantil y el éxito excepcional de su nuevo Proyecto Educativo está renegociando su convivencia escolar. Mediante una etnografía realizada en las aulas y el patio del liceo, la presente investigación analiza las interacciones observables entre los adultos y los jóvenes del liceo con respecto al no vestir uniforme, los atrasos y la horizontalidad en el aula. El trabajo de campo señala que el reglamento interno del liceo se aproxima más a las justi­ficaciones basadas en los marcos de la democracia y los Derechos Humanos en vez de la disciplina, aunque algunos elementos de la escuela disciplinaria siguen siendo una base de las relaciones docente–estudiante. Por lo tanto, los estudiantes generalmente no se sienten como «ratones» controlados por los educadores y el orden social, sino que protagonistas en la transformación de su escuela y su sociedad.

Abstract

In Santiago a high school, well known by its pugnacity in the students movement and for the amazing success in its educational project, is renegotiating its school coexistence. By means of an ethnographical research developed in the classrooms and the playgrounds of the high school, the present research analyzes the interaction of adults and young ones of the high school concerning the facto of not wearing uniform, tardiness, and horizonta­lity in the classroom. The field work reveals that the school regulations are closer to the justifications based on the frameworks of democracy and the Human Rights instead of discipline, even though some elements of the disciplinary school are still the basis of the teacher–student relationship. Thus, the students generally do not feel like «mice» contro­lled by the teachers and the social order, but protagonists of the transformation of their school and their society.
