Abstract

The objective of the presentation of the following case is to highlight the benefits of the
application of advanced wound healing in the management of a complex hand injury. We
decided to present the case of a diabetic male patient who develops an abscess on the back
of the left hand, its diagnosis, treatment, evolution and salvage of his limb with the
application of dressings, supplies and equipment for the advanced healing of wounds 3rd and
5th Generation in the General Surgery Service of the Dr. Teodoro Maldonado Carbo
Specialty Hospital, in the city of Guayaquil.
Whereas Diabetes is a metabolic disease currently classified as a pandemic due to its high
prevalence, high socio-health investment; a reality that also involves us, among its acute
complications is characterized by having a rapid development affecting and involving the
osseous, muscle, tendon structures and soft tissues of the extremities, with the hand being
one of the structures of greatest risk and affectation, which is why of more highlight its
importance as unit functional-anatomic in the quality of life of a person
