Travel account modes: a classification proposal

Jaime Alberto Galgani Muñoz, Paulina Andrea Daza Daza

Abstract

Within the research about the origin of journalistic-literary chronicle, the purpose of this paper is to present classification criteria for travel accounts, considering the contributions of renowned specialists with the aim of determining the existence of nine subgenres. These express the dialectic of the travel account between the importance of the “narrated objet” and the “self” who narrates their experience. Two fundamental criteria are considered for the organization of the proposal: the nature of the account (descriptive, argumentative, narrative) and its purpose (documentary, ideological, aesthetic). In their intersection, the proposal is produced to be offered for academic discussion and pedagogical implementation.
